Digital Chamber Sues Illinois Over 0.2% Digital Asset Tax Set to Launch January 2027

According to The Block, the Digital Chamber (TDC) filed a lawsuit against Illinois on July 22, challenging the state's digital asset trading tax law signed last month as part of the 2027 budget. The law imposes a 0.2% tax on digital asset transactions starting January 1, 2027. In a 32-page complaint, TDC argues the tax discriminates against digital assets based on technology differences, violating equal treatment principles. The group warned that approval could prompt other states to impose similar taxes on emerging technologies like AI settlement systems.
