According to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Supervisory Commission on May 25, Du Guoping, former party secretary and chairman of Chongqing Hi-tech Development Group, was removed from office for serious violations of party discipline and illegal conduct. The investigation found Du engaged in corruption and abuse of power, including obstructing party investigations, accepting improper gifts, conducting illegal business activities, and soliciting bribes in exchange for favorable treatment in project contracting and fund disbursement. He was expelled from the party, removed from public office, had his illicit gains confiscated, and his case was referred to prosecutors for potential criminal charges.
