EU Allows Jet A Fuel Use for Airlines Amid Hormuz Strait Supply Disruption on May 8

According to EU announcement on May 8, the European Commission will allow European airlines to use Jet A fuel, a type more commonly available in the United States, to address supply disruptions caused by the Hormuz Strait closure. The move aims to help carriers cope with fuel shortages after the strait's closure impacted aviation fuel supplies.

The EU will also confirm that airline ticket prices cannot be increased after purchase. Airlines including Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, and IAG had previously requested permission to import and use Jet A fuel as an alternative to the current European standard Jet A1, which is derived from kerosene.
