Fed's Logan Says Interest Rate Hike Needed to Combat Inflation on July 17

According to Jin10, Federal Reserve official Logan stated on July 17 that the Fed should raise rates to combat elevated inflation. Logan indicated she may oppose a decision to hold rates unchanged later this month. She noted that June CPI data released on Tuesday showed inflation slowing, though not enough for her to confirm inflation has returned to the Fed's 2% target path. Logan stated that while June CPI suggests inflation could return to target with a more positive outlook, the path remains fragile, and she believes a moderate rate increase would help better balance the economic outlook and risks.
