According to data presented at China Power Engineering Society’s 2026 conference on May 12, the global gas turbine industry is experiencing unprecedented supply-demand imbalance. Global demand for gas turbines (including aero-derivative, industrial, and heavy-duty models) reached approximately 90-100 GW in 2025, while the combined annual production capacity of major manufacturers stands at only 55-60 GW, creating a supply gap of 30-40 GW. Accumulated order backlogs now equal the industry’s total output over the past 2-3 years, marking the most severe structural shortage since the natural gas power generation boom began in 2000.
