According to CME data released on May 22, gold and Brent crude oil futures both saw increased trading volume and open interest on May 21. Gold futures trading volume rose 15,754 contracts to 225,680 hands, with open interest up 5,674 to 380,340 hands. Brent crude oil futures volume increased 10,869 to 227,436 hands, while open interest gained 2,852 to 243,404 hands.
In contrast, WTI crude oil futures saw higher trading volume of 1,041,769 hands (up 112,350) but lower open interest of 1,990,273 hands (down 7,485). Silver, copper, and natural gas experienced reduced trading activity but slight open interest increases.
