According to CNBC, Goldman Sachs has created an alternative investments platform combining its existing alternatives business with two newly established teams focused on direct investments in late-stage private companies and helping clients buy and sell those stakes.
The platform aims to provide wealthy clients and family offices direct access to fast-growing private companies before they go public. Goldman has arranged such direct investments for roughly two decades, including stakes in Facebook before its 2012 IPO and later SpaceX, Stripe and Canva. Growing demand for the asset class, intensified by the AI investment boom, convinced executives to formalize the business, with the firm increasingly steering clients toward investments in AI infrastructure including data centers.
