According to ChainCatcher, HSBC received approval from the Bank of England to operate in the Digital Securities Sandbox (DSS), becoming the first company authorized to launch on the sandbox. HSBC's digital asset platform HSBC Orion will serve as a digital securities custodian, supporting digital bond issuance, settlement, and trading, including planned UK sovereign digital bonds (DIGIT) and corporate debt instruments.

HSBC Orion has already facilitated over $5 billion in digital bond issuances globally. The UK Treasury expects the first DIGIT transaction to occur in Q1 2027, with HSBC and the London Stock Exchange Group signing a memorandum of understanding to develop connectivity for investor participation in pilot programs.
