Iceland's Parliament Approves August 29 Referendum on Restarting EU Accession Talks

GateNews
According to Jin10, Iceland's parliament approved on May 28 a referendum scheduled for August 29 to decide whether to restart EU membership negotiations. If Icelanders vote in favor, the government will notify the EU and both sides can resume formal talks. Any final accession agreement would require a separate referendum. Iceland applied to join the EU in 2009 and suspended negotiations in 2013. The EU Commission noted that Iceland's application has not been formally withdrawn.
