According to Jin10, on May 29, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei condemned U.S. threats against Oman, calling them an attempt to extort an independent UN member state. U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent had threatened to impose sanctions on Oman if it assists Iran in establishing a toll collection system in the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei described the sanctions threat as an illegal act and called it evidence of the moral bankruptcy of U.S. governance, urging the international community to prevent further violations of international law.
