According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, a U.S. Navy destroyer attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz on May 12, and Iranian forces fired warning shots after observing what they described as provocative behavior. The U.S. vessel subsequently altered its course. Senior IRGC Navy official Mohammad Akbarza said Iran maintains close surveillance of regional activity and will not tolerate any violation of its territorial waters.
