Joint Maritime Information Center Upgrades Hormuz Strait Threat Level to Severe on July 7

According to CBS, on July 10, the 47-nation Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) recommended merchant vessels use the southern route through the Strait of Hormuz despite Iranian objections. The recommendation came after JMIC upgraded the maritime threat level for the strait from 'Substantial' to 'Severe' on July 7. JMIC noted that while ships can transit the southern route without coordination with the naval coalition, routes outside this corridor remain unprotected.
