Kansas Physics Teacher Arrested for Clapping at AI Data Center Hearing

According to KWCH, a physics teacher at Emporia High School was arrested and removed from a city commission meeting earlier this month after clapping in support of opponents of a proposed 1,000-acre Flint Hills Digital Campus. Lux Claridge was handcuffed after applauding a speaker criticizing the AI data center project, which the city had warned could be deemed disruptive. After posting bail, Claridge told KWCH he plans to plead not guilty in September. The arrest reflects broader nationwide opposition to AI infrastructure; Reuters reported in July that opponents held 142 protests across 42 states over concerns about energy consumption, water use, and noise impacts.
