Korea Investment Corporation Discusses Venture Capital Collaboration on July 7, Emphasizes Shift to Hectocorn Investments

According to Yonhapinfomax, on July 7, Heo Yun-hyuk, head of private equity at Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), emphasized that global venture investment trends are now concentrated on backing top-tier venture capitalists' investments in hectocorns—privately held companies valued at over $100 billion. Speaking at a parliamentary forum, Heo highlighted KIC's collaboration with Korea Venture Investment Corporation (KVIC) following their memorandum of understanding signed on June 30, aimed at fostering the domestic venture ecosystem. Heo noted the venture investment paradigm has shifted from the unicorn era (2010s) toward investments in capital-intensive AI, deep tech, and infrastructure sectors, with top startups and leading VCs increasingly concentrating capital.
