According to Reuters, Meta signed up on June 10 to lease capacity at an AI-enabled data center operated by Reliance Industries in Jamnagar, marking Meta's first AI data center facility in India. The first phase will provide 168 megawatts of capacity and can be expanded. The facility will be powered by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater. Financial terms and launch timeline were not disclosed. The project expands Meta's existing partnership with Reliance; Meta invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms in 2020 and the companies launched a joint venture to bring Meta's open-source AI models to Indian enterprises.
