Middle East Crisis Pushes 45 Million Toward Hunger as Food Prices Surge, WFP Warns on June 4

According to World Food Programme Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau at a UN headquarters press conference on June 4, the Middle East crisis is driving up energy and food prices, creating spillover effects on global food security. If oil prices remain above $100 per barrel through July, approximately 45 million people will be pushed toward hunger, the WFP warned. Skau noted that previously warned risks are becoming reality, with potentially more severe long-term consequences.
