NSW Brewery Now Harnesses Solar Power for Bitcoin Mining, Earning $2,000 Monthly via Heat Recovery

Hawkesbury Brewing Co in Lisarow, NSW, now operates 16 Bitcoin mining computers powered entirely by rooftop solar panels. The mining equipment runs only when solar generation exceeds the brewery's electricity demand, generating approximately $2,000 in monthly revenue that nearly offsets the site's power bills.

Instead of wasting the heat produced by miners, the brewery captures it using liquid-immersed systems and channels the warmed energy into its water supply for brewing and bottle washing. This recycled heat supports production of roughly 100,000 litres of beer monthly. The brewery chose this approach after finding that exporting surplus solar power to the grid was financially unattractive, while battery storage was ruled out due to insurance concerns near alcohol facilities.
