Nvidia's $5B SSI Investment Fails To Prevent 5.3% Stock Decline Amid Chip Sector Weakness

NVDA-5.04%
According to Bloomberg, Nvidia committed $5 billion to Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the AI startup founded by OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, on Monday. The funding also grants SSI access to Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin AI platform, which the companies said could expand the startup's computing capacity by an order of magnitude. Despite the announcement, Nvidia shares (NVDA) fell as much as 5.3% in midday trading Monday, pressured by broader semiconductor sector weakness and reports of China's progress in domestic chipmaking, including new DUV lithography systems expected to ship this year.
