Only 1 Tanker Passes Through Hormuz Strait on July 23, Lowest in 2.5 Months Amid Middle East Tensions

According to ship tracking company Kpler, only 1 tanker passed through the Hormuz Strait on July 23, marking the lowest level since May 7 and the first time no new vessels entered the waterway. The slowdown comes as Middle East transit risks persist and crude oil prices break above $100 per barrel. The single tanker departing was a very large crude carrier loaded with 2 million barrels of Iraqi Basrah crude, scheduled to arrive in China by mid-August. Tensions have escalated with U.S. forces conducting 13 consecutive days of airstrikes against Iran, while Yemen-based Houthi forces claimed attacks on two tankers on July 22.
