OpenAI Plans $20 Billion Data Center Investment in Georgia, Total Cost May Exceed $30 Billion

According to its announcement Wednesday, OpenAI plans to invest $20 billion to launch a data center project called Camellia in Effingham County, Georgia, with total costs potentially exceeding $30 billion. OpenAI has signed a contract with Georgia Power to receive 3.2 gigawatts of electricity supply between 2028 and 2032. Vice President of Compute Strategy Sachin Katti said the facility could become one of OpenAI's largest data centers to date.
