According to CCTV News, the Pentagon canceled a planned deployment of 4,000+ U.S. troops to Poland on May 15. The decision was part of broader efforts to reduce the U.S. military footprint in Europe, Army Acting Chief of Staff Christopher Laniewski announced during a congressional hearing.
Defense Secretary Hegseth ordered the cancellation of the 1st Cavalry Division’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team’s originally scheduled nine-month rotational deployment to Poland. U.S. European Command “has received instructions regarding force reductions,” Laniewski said, adding that the deployment plan was formally canceled earlier that week.
