Philippines Car Sales Fall 18.9% in April as Oil Surge Curbs Demand; EV Sales Soar 288%

GateNews

According to the Philippines Automotive Manufacturers' Association (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers' Association (TMA), vehicle sales fell 18.9% year-over-year to 27,225 units in April, down from 33,580 units the previous year—the steepest decline since August 2021. Rising oil prices driven by Middle East tensions dampened consumer demand for gasoline-powered vehicles.

In stark contrast, electric vehicle sales surged 288% in April, jumping to 5,855 units from 1,509 units year-earlier. For the first four months of 2026, overall automotive sales declined 12% but EV sales jumped 159% to 17,655 units, driven by growing consumer demand for fuel-efficient alternatives.
