According to Japan’s public broadcaster NHK, the Philippines has expressed interest in Japan’s Type 88 coast-based anti-ship missiles, and Japan’s Defense Ministry has begun exploring export procedures, sources reported today (May 15).

The development follows Japan’s cabinet decision on April 21, which modified the “Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment” and its guidelines, allowing Japan to export lethal weapons in principle.
