Ripple Marks 3rd Anniversary of Landmark XRP 'Not a Security' Ruling

Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty celebrated today the 3rd anniversary of U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres' July 13, 2023 ruling that XRP is not a security. The landmark decision distinguished between XRP itself and the specific transactions in which it was sold, ruling that Ripple's programmatic sales on public exchanges were not securities transactions. While the court found Ripple's institutional XRP sales violated securities laws, it made clear XRP itself is not inherently a security. According to crypto attorney John Deaton, the ruling was shaped by input from more than 75,000 XRP holders and nearly 4,000 amicus briefs submitted to the court, which Judge Torres specifically cited in her summary judgment.
