Russia Will Not Initiate Dialogue With EU, Peskov Says on May 8

According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on May 8, Russia will not take the initiative to engage in dialogue with the European Union. Peskov's remarks came after European Council President Antonio Costa recently expressed confidence that the EU "has the potential" to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Peskov stated that if Europe is prepared to engage in dialogue, Russia is willing to advance talks with corresponding commitment. However, given the EU's previous positions, Russia will not be the first to initiate dialogue with the bloc.
