Samsung Electronics Union Announces Strike by 50,000 Employees Starting May 21 After Wage Talks Collapse

Samsung Electronics union representatives announced on Wednesday that wage negotiations with the company have failed, with over 50,000 employees planning a full strike beginning May 21. The strike, planned to last 18 days, could disrupt production of artificial intelligence chips and other semiconductors. According to union representative Choi Seung-ho, the company rejected the union's demands to reform compensation, including removing the annual bonus cap currently set at 50% of base salary. South Korea's National Labor Relations Commission ended mediation efforts, citing the wide gap between both sides' positions.
