Samsung-Union Wage Talks Collapse Over AI-Linked Bonus Dispute; Strike Risk Rises

According to Yonhap News, Samsung Electronics and its union failed to reach a wage agreement in last-minute negotiations, raising the risk of a strike. After a two-day marathon mediation session by South Korean labor authorities, the two sides remained at odds over performance bonuses tied to AI profit growth. The union demanded Samsung remove the current bonus cap and allocate 15% of operating profit to employee bonuses, with terms written into labor contracts. Samsung proposed allocating 10% of operating profit to bonuses and offered a one-time special compensation package above industry standards.
