Samsung, SK Hynix Report Record Q2 Earnings; Market Shifts Focus to AI Investment Sustainability

According to Chosun Biz, on July 27, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix reported record quarterly earnings this week amid a broader earnings season for major tech companies including Microsoft and Meta. SK Hynix posted Q2 revenue of 84.17 trillion won, up 278.6% year-over-year, with operating profit surging approximately sevenfold to 64.24 trillion won. Samsung reported record quarterly revenue of 171 trillion won and operating profit of 89.4 trillion won. However, investors are increasingly focused on companies' ability to sustain massive AI investments and generate stable cash flow, rather than earnings figures alone. Market sentiment has shifted from viewing capital expenditure expansion as a signal of AI demand growth to concerns about whether such spending erodes cash generation capacity, reflecting broader capital efficiency considerations among tech sector investors.
