Semiconductor-Focused ETFs Drop 23.6% in 8 Days, Outpacing Kospi as Concentration Risk Hits

According to Korean Exchange data, on July 1–8, semiconductor-focused ETFs including 'SOL AI Semiconductor TOP2 Plus' fell 23.6%, significantly outpacing the Kospi's 12.3% decline and KRX Semiconductor Index's 19% drop. The steep losses stemmed from these ETFs' concentrated holdings in Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and SK Square—which account for approximately 80% of portfolio weight. During the same period, Samsung Electro-Mechanics declined 26% and SK Square fell over 20%, both steeper than the primary holdings of Samsung Electronics (-5%) and SK Hynix (-11%). The concentrated strategy resulted in beta values of 1.7 and 1.4 for some products, indicating higher volatility than broader semiconductor indices like KODEX Semiconductor, which recorded a beta of 1.06.
