Senator Alsobrooks: Clarity Act Needs Ethics Clarification Before Senate Vote Support

According to CoinDesk, Senator Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland said on June 5 that she would not vote in favor of the Clarity Act until the Senate reaches agreement on ethics provisions and anti-money laundering requirements. Alsobrooks stated that her committee support aimed to advance bipartisan negotiations, with remaining disagreements over ethics requirements, anti-laundering provisions championed by Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, and agricultural committee details. She defended a stablecoin yield compromise provision, noting that nine months of negotiations produced language prohibiting interest payments based solely on stablecoin balances, preventing products that function as deposit accounts without banking oversight protections.
