Shareholder Group Files Greenwashing Complaint Against Cenovus and Enbridge on August 21

According to The Canadian Press, on August 21, 2025, shareholder advocacy group Investors for Paris Compliance filed a greenwashing complaint with Alberta Securities Commission against Cenovus Inc. (TSX: CVE) and Enbridge Inc. (TSX: ENB), alleging the two Canadian energy companies misled investors through inaccurate environmental disclosures.

The group argues that by extensively using net-zero terminology, both companies conveyed that their business models align with net-zero energy transition while continuing fossil fuel expansion plans. The complaint seeks an investigation into existing and past climate disclosures from both companies and requests provincial securities regulators develop guidance on net-zero claims for Canadian publicly listed firms.
