According to Yonhapinfomax, SK Telecom established a new subsidiary, SK Hyper, on July 23 to accelerate its AI data center business. The company's board approved a plan to invest 750 billion Korean won through 2030 to develop the subsidiary.
SK Hyper will focus on securing land, building and operating substations, and acquiring customers for AI data centers. SK Telecom targets opening 5GW of AI data center capacity by 2029 as a first phase, with plans to expand to 15GW total capacity by 2035 across regions including Ulsan, Chungcheong, and Southwest Korea.
