According to Odaily, on Monday (July 21), São Paulo's consumer protection office filed a lawsuit against Tools for Humanity (the company behind World) and Amazon AWS, alleging abuse in biometric data collection activities and seeking 240 million Brazilian reais, approximately $47 million, in damages. The lawsuit concerns over 400,000 people who participated in World's promotional campaign in São Paulo and names the biometric data collection as unlawful, claiming World continued distributing cryptocurrency rewards through in-app transactions even after Brazil's data protection authority ordered a halt in February 2025. Investigators allege the program specifically targeted economically disadvantaged populations in peripheral areas and failed to adequately disclose to consumers the economic purpose of the initiative and data processing risks via AWS servers.
