According to ChainCatcher, Spain's gambling regulator DGOJ (Directorate General for Gambling Regulation) has ordered internet service providers to temporarily block prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi. The regulator alleges both platforms offer prediction trading products on future events without obtaining Spanish gambling licenses and lacks required consumer protections including identity verification, minor safeguards, and self-limitation mechanisms.
The investigation is expected to last three to four months. Spanish users will see risk warnings when attempting to access the platforms. Regulators may subsequently impose fines, permanent restrictions, or require platforms to obtain local licenses.
