Taiwan authorities have reportedly indicted a television anchor accused of accepting Tether USDT stablecoin payments in exchange for producing and distributing pro-China political messaging. Prosecutors allege the arrangement was designed to exploit cryptocurrency’s cross-border efficiency and relative opacity to move funds discreetly while influencing public discourse ahead of Taiwan’s election period. Authorities believe the payments were linked to a broader network connected to Chinese intelligence activities targeting Taiwan’s media landscape.
