According to founder Pavel Durov, Telegram is rolling out a native non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet to every version of its messaging app before the end of summer. The platform will give its over 1 billion monthly active users direct access to zero-fee Gram transfers (Gram is the cryptocurrency formerly known as Toncoin). Users will control their private keys instead of relying on third-party custodians. Durov described the rollout as the largest deployment of a non-custodial wallet in history. The new integrated wallet is separate from Telegram's existing Wallet service, which has over 150 million registered users.
