Trump Administration Considers Using $5 Billion in Withheld Palestinian Tax Revenues for Gaza Reconstruction

According to Reuters on May 16, the Trump administration is considering requiring Israel to transfer part of the withheld Palestinian tax revenues to a peace committee to fund the U.S. president's post-war reconstruction plan for Gaza. Five sources briefed on the discussions revealed that the proposal would allocate some tax funds to a U.S.-backed transitional government in Gaza, with additional amounts to be disbursed to the Palestinian Authority following its reform. The Palestinian Authority has stated the total amount of withheld tax revenues is $5 billion.
