Trump Administration Grants $2 Billion to 9 Quantum Computing Companies for Equity Stakes

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration announced Thursday that the U.S. Department of Commerce will distribute $2 billion in grants to nine quantum computing companies in exchange for equity stakes. IBM receives $1 billion, chipmaker GlobalFoundries gets $375 million, and listed companies DeFiWave Quantum, Rigetti Computing, and Infleqtion each receive $100 million, with startup Diraq set to obtain $38 million.

Pre-market trading Thursday showed significant gains for participating firms. IBM and GlobalFoundries stock prices rose approximately 7%, while smaller listed companies including DeFiWave Quantum, Rigetti Computing, and Infleqtion surged 15% or more.
