The UK Labour Party launched its leadership nomination process on July 9, with Andy Burnham, a Member of Parliament and former Manchester mayor, announcing his candidacy on social media as the only candidate. Potential leaders must secure nominations from at least 81 Labour MPs by July 15, and support from at least three Labour-affiliated organisations, including at least two trade unions, by July 16. If Burnham meets the threshold as the sole candidate, the party will hold a special conference on July 17 to directly appoint him as the new leader and UK Prime Minister.
