UN Secretary-General Urges Iran, US to Resume Talks on July 12

According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' spokesperson statement issued on July 12, Guterres expressed deep concern over military escalation in the Persian Gulf and urged Iran and the United States to immediately resume negotiations to resolve outstanding disputes through diplomatic channels. The secretary-general called for all attacks to cease and urged parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate the situation.

Guterres emphasized that full-scale hostility would have catastrophic consequences for the region's people, international peace and security, and the global economy, and reiterated the necessity of maintaining complete freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
