U.S. BEA Adjusts PCE Calculation Method, Expected to Cut Core Inflation by 0.2 Percentage Point on September 30

According to an announcement by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the agency will adjust the calculation method for the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, with changes expected to be reflected in data revisions published on September 30, 2026. Market estimates indicate the adjustment will reduce core PCE inflation by approximately 0.2 percentage point. BEA is modifying the price calculation approach for three segments: portfolio management and investment advisory services, computer software and accessories, and legal services.
