U.S. Commerce Secretary Urges Samsung, SK Hynix to Expand Memory Chip Production in America

According to U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, on July 10, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are being pressed to accelerate memory chip production expansion in the United States to help ease global shortages of critical components for artificial intelligence development. Lutnick, speaking at a Micron Technology event, said he is in consultations with the two South Korean chipmakers but declined to disclose specific details. He acknowledged that Micron Chief Executive Sanjay Mehrotra may not welcome competitors expanding U.S. operations, but emphasized that the country needs a more robust chip supply chain.
