U.S. Consumer Confidence Rises to 91.2 in June, Below Forecast as Job Concerns Intensify

According to the Conference Board, on June 30, the U.S. consumer confidence index rose to 91.2 in June from a downwardly revised 90.6 in May, but fell short of market expectations of 94.4. The current situation index declined to its lowest level since March 2021, reflecting weakening consumer sentiment on employment and economic conditions. The share of respondents citing difficulty finding work surged to 22.5%, the highest since January 2021, signaling deteriorating labor market perception despite recent oil price declines that temporarily eased inflation concerns.
