According to ABC News, on Thursday a US federal judge ruled that grant cuts carried out by Elon Musk-backed DOGE were unlawful. US District Judge Colleen McMahon in New York said staff used ChatGPT and keyword searches including ‘DEI,’ ‘Equity,’ ‘Inclusion,’ and ‘LGBTQ’ to help terminate funding programmes across the National Endowment for the Humanities. The judge blocked the Trump administration from enforcing the disputed cancellations, stating the review process failed to resemble any normal federal grant review system. McMahon wrote that using protected identities and diversity-related terms as reasons to remove funding may have violated the law.
