According to U.S. Central Command, the U.S. military struck two Iranian-flagged tankers, SEA STAR III and SEVDA, in the Gulf of Oman on May 8, rendering both vessels unable to navigate. An F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet from the USS Bush aircraft carrier fired precision-guided munitions at the tankers' smokestacks as they attempted to enter an Iranian port.
