U.S. Navy Sailor Arrested in Japan on Theft Charges, Allegedly Stole ¥105,000 from Taxi on May 17

According to Japan’s Kyodo News, a U.S. Navy sailor stationed at Sasebo Naval Base was arrested by Japanese police on May 17 for allegedly stealing a bag containing a wallet and smartphone worth approximately ¥105,000 (around $689 USD) from a taxi in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture. The incident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. local time on May 17. The taxi driver reported that a man boarded the vehicle, engaged in a dispute with a female passenger, and then took the bag. The sailor has denied some of the allegations.
