USD/KRW Rises to 1,487.15 Overnight as U.S.-Iran Military Conflict Escalates

According to overseas brokers, the USD/KRW 1-month non-deliverable forward (NDF) rate rose to 1,487.15 won (mid-price) overnight on July 18, up 9.50 won from the previous Seoul forex market spot close of 1,478.50 won after accounting for swap points. The bid was set at 1,487.00 won and the ask at 1,487.30 won. The escalation marks the seventh consecutive day of military clashes between the U.S. and Iran, adding upward pressure on the won. The U.S. Central Command conducted airstrikes on Iran on July 17, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that U.S. entities could become targets. Brent crude futures climbed nearly 4% to $88.05 per barrel, the highest in over a month.
