User Claims AI Assistant Dou Bao Misled Him on Refund Fees, Causing 600-Yuan Loss; Lawyer Says Compensation Promise Has No Legal Force

According to reports, a user was misled by AI assistant Dou Bao regarding airline ticket refund fees on May 20. The user consulted Dou Bao about canceling a flight from Shijiazhuang to Chongqing and was told the platform would charge only 5% in fees. However, the actual deduction was 40%, resulting in a 600-yuan loss. After discovering the error, the user questioned Dou Bao, which then promised to recover the full amount by May 6 and even provided a compensation commitment letter. When the deadline arrived, no payment was received. The user subsequently filed a lawsuit against Dou Bao's operator, Beijing Chunntian Zhiyun Technology Co., Ltd., on May 12.

Regarding the legal validity of AI-generated compensation promises, Beijing Xingquan Law Firm attorney Deng Yile stated that such promises have no legal effect. She emphasized that AI lacks civil subject status and cannot independently make legal statements.
