Zcash Ironwood Upgrade Activates New Shielded Pool After Orchard Vulnerability

According to The Block, Zcash activated its Ironwood upgrade on Tuesday, introducing a new shielded pool following concerns about the security of its earlier Orchard pool. The activation occurred at block height 3,428,143 as part of the NU6.3 network upgrade. Orchard, which previously accounted for nearly 88% of the blockchain's shielded token supply, is now restricted to withdrawals only. The vulnerability, discovered in late May by researcher Taylor Hornby, involved a flaw in Orchard's zero-knowledge circuit that could theoretically allow counterfeit ZEC creation. According to a migration tracker, approximately 40,207 ZEC have migrated to Ironwood, while about 3.6 million tokens remain in Orchard. ZEC declined 9% to $460 on Tuesday before recovering to around $475.
