According to the Zcash Foundation, ZEC rallied over 10% on June 3 after Zebra 5.0.0 activated the NU6.2 upgrade to fix a critical Orchard soundness bug and restore full network functions. The vulnerability, discovered on May 29 by security researcher Taylor Hornby, could have allowed double-spending within Orchard, though Zcash's turnstile mechanism protected the total ZEC supply.
An emergency soft fork on June 2 temporarily disabled Orchard actions while developers completed the circuit fix. Zebra 5.0.0 re-enabled Orchard with the corrected proof circuit on June 3. The Foundation confirmed no unauthorized value creation occurred and credited Taylor Hornby, Shielded Labs, miners, and node operators for supporting the coordinated upgrade.
